ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A person police suspect was trying to hold up a smoke shop was shot and killed by an employee Friday afternoon, Albuquerque police are reporting.
The shooting happened at the Full Spectrum Smoke Shop on Sage Road SW near 98th Street around 4 p.m.
APD has not named the suspected robber or the employee involved, but a woman identifying herself as a relative of the employee said he kept a gun behind the counter.
"It's unfortunate all the way around, but ya know, I'm just glad he's OK and it didn't go the other way," said Jessica Baumeister, the employee's cousin.
It is not known whether the employee used his gun or if there was a struggle and he used the robber's gun in the shooting.
The investigation is still in it's early stages, and no additional information has been released.
Security cameras are located outside and inside the smoke shop. Investigators were trying to gain access to the security system to see if there was video of the incident.
