ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - As Albuquerque police continue to investigate Monday's deadly officer-involved shooting more information is being released about the officer involved.
APD confirms that the officer involved in the shooting is Martin Smith, an 18 year veteran of the force.
Monday just after 1 p.m., police say Officer Smith went to investigate a guy trying to sell stolen stereo equipment in an apartment complex parking lot, near Marquette and Texas.
According to Chief Ray Schultz, the suspect Daniel Tillison, 31, at one point tried to use his SUV as a weapon against Smith. That is when Smith fired off two shots, hitting Tillison once, killing him.
Officers are reconstructing the incident Tuesday to determine how the shooting happened.
