SANTA FE (KRQE) - A two-car collision in Santa Fe Thursday evening killed one driver and injured the other.
The Santa Fe Sheriff's Department reports the crash at Country Road 62 happened at 4:45 p.m. when Elizabeth Gonzales driving a 2008 Dodge Caliber turned left from State Road 599 into the path of a 2009 Cadillac driven by Nancy Mroz.
The Cadillac struck Gonzales broadside. Gonzales, 24, was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room. Mroz, 61, was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.
Deputies' suspect Gonzales misjudged the closing speed of the Cadillac on the four-lane Santa Fe bypass. Their preliminary investigation has found no indication of drugs or alcohol playing a role in the crash, Lt. Joe McLaughlin told News 13.
The intersection of NM599 and CR62 was closed for four hours during the investigation.
