ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Without calling any witnesses the defense has rested its case in the federal murder trial of Arizona prison escapee John McCluskey.
McCluskey is on trial for the 2010 murders of Gary and Linda Haas, a vacationing Oklahoma couple, whose burned bodies were found in their trailer near Santa Rosa.
Before that McCluskey and another inmate, Tracy Province, escaped from a prison in Kingman with the help of McCluskey's cousin and fiancée, Casslyn Welch.
During the months-long trial, prosecutors called dozens of witnesses including Province and Welch, who claimed McCluskey acted alone in killing he Haases.
The defense cross-examing them and other witnesses vigorously and disputed their claims.
Closing arguments will be next with the jury getting the case after that.
McCluskey faces a possible death sentence if convicted.
