ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The man arrested for a stabbing Monday night is now charged with murder after the victim died.
At about 10:30 p.m. police responding to a call at 13001 Central Avenue NE found Jason Cary, 38, suffering a stab wound in his upper left back. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Bill Vasquez, 56, was detained at the scene and originally charged with aggravated battery. Vasquez told officers he was defending himself from an attack by Cary, a neighbor at the Value Place Inn.
About 14 hours later as the investigation was concluding, detectives learned Cary had died, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson said.
Vasquez remains in the Metropolitan Detention Center without bond on an open count of murder.
