ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police are investigating a fight at a home that could lead to murder charges for the victim's girlfriend.
Police got the call just after midnight to an apartment building on Ross Street, near Gibson and Carlisle.
They say a couple coming back from a night out got into a fight after a cooking pot was knocked over in their kitchen.
Police say the man, Nolberto Torres Gonzales, was stabbed by his live in girlfriend, Lorenza Navarro.
They say the two struggled over a butcher knife that Navarro armed herself with during the argument. In the struggle, Torres Gonzales received stab wounds.
He then ran outside, bleeding all over the sidewalk.
Torres Gonzales was taken UNMH in critical condition.
Police are now investigating the case as a homicide even though they say the man is still alive.
Medical investigators were on scene Monday morning as well.
Neighbors say police are on the street often.
One neighbor says the area has been a hot-bed for crime.
"They broke in my house like about three days ago as a matter of fact, I am trying to find a place to live myself,” Rosa said.
"Because of the nature of the call and because of the stabbing and his wounds, he's in critical condition, we've decided to make it a full homicide call out,” Officer Simon Drobik said.
Navarro is in custody charged with aggravated battery
Police are not sure if anyone else was in the apartment when the argument broke out.
