ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - School officials are investigating an attempted abduction reported Wednesday morning near an Albuquerque elementary school.
Two kids say a man tried to take them, and now Albuquerque Public Schools officials and police are working to find the suspects.
It happened at Edward Gonzales Elementary School in the 500 block of 90th Street SW as two students, a brother and sister, were walking to the school, according to APS police.
The kids say a man got out of a black truck and tried to grab the little girl. The boy then hit the man until he let go of his sister.
That's when the two children ran toward the crosswalk guard, and the man got away.
The children described the suspect as having short black hair, wearing sunglasses and being dressed in black shirt, black pants and shoes. They told authorities a woman was driving the black truck the suspect was in.
"It's just unbelievable that it happened so close to an elementary, and there's a lot of witnesses," Fabian Shije, the parent of a student at the school, told KRQE News 13.
APS officials say they plan on sending out a letter to parents about the incident home from school, letting them know what happened, and to remind their kids about stranger danger.
Anyone with information on the case can contact the APS Police Department.
