Final suspect in Edgewood shooting appears in court

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – - The alleged triggerman in the murder of a gas station attendant faced a judge Friday.

Daniel Martinez had been hospitalized since his arrest. Police say he accidentally shot himself while trying to get away from a security guard.

Martinez and seven others are accused of taking part in the robbery of the Smith’s gas station in Edgewood on Feb. 11.

Witnesses say Martinez shot gas station attendant Michael Pelky as Pelky got into a physical altercation with another suspect.

Friday in court, the state called for Martinez to be kept behind bars until trial.

A Santa Fe District Court judge will make that decision next week.
