ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A former Metro Detention Center guard is going to prison.
In March, a federal jury convicted Kevin Casaus for obstruction of justice and falsifying records but acquitted him on a related assault charge.
He was accused of beating inmate Christopher Shields in 2011 who was not cooperating while he was being booked for DWI.
Casaus was one of three officers charged with the attack.
On Monday, he was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison with one year of probation.
