PORTALES, N.M. (AP) -
An inmate who escaped through an air conditioning vent at the Roosevelt County jail has been captured in West Texas.
Ruben Lozano was caught Friday in Midland. Sheriff's deputies told the Portales News-Tribune that he was he was staying at an apartment complex with family members.
Video footage showed Lozano and fellow inmate Stephen Phillips jumping off the jail's roof last week. A detention center officer found a blanket on the ground about 30 minutes later while doing a routine patrol.
Phillips was captured an hour later just a couple of blocks from the jail.
Phillips was being held on auto burglary charges. Lozano was accused of drug trafficking.
Prosecutors say Lozano will be arraigned next week on charges related to the escape.
Officials say the Bernalillo County Treasurer Office is closed Friday after a suspicious substance was found in the office.
