ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The man accused of trying to break into an ATM is reportedly linked to a fatal police shooting.
Police say Michael Betz tried but failed to open the machine on east Central.
They say he used a drill and a saw and then tried to yank it open by hooking it up to his van. But they say the bumper of his van came off, so he fled the scene.
Police caught up with him after he crashed through a fence at a nearby home.
Police say Betz may have been involved in an incident that led to a deadly police shooting in March.
He and his girlfriend were allegedly with a man named Parrish Denison , who was trying to sell stolen instruments to a heights music store.
Denison was killed in a confrontation with police.
Betz left before cops got there.
He has not been charged in that case.
