ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Something big, new and exciting is planned for Albuquerque's struggling Winrock Mall including a first-for-the-city movie experience.
Developers announced plans Thursday for a 16-screen movie theater which would include Albuquerque's first IMAX screen.
Winrock Partners has signed a 20-year lease with Regal Cinemas to put an estimated 73,000-square-foot theater east of Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Specially produced IMAX films can be shown larger and with higher resolution than standard movies in theaters equipped with IMAX screens, the largest of which is about eight stories tall.
The plan also includes retail shops, restaurants and a parking garage.
Construction is planned to start in April and could be finished in 2012.
