Albuquerque library renamed to honor local author Rudolfo Anaya

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - An Albuquerque library has been renamed to honor popular local author Rudolfo Anaya.

The North Valley Library is now officially the Anaya Library.

Anaya has been a prominent figure in New Mexico's literary history. His most well-known work of course is the book, "Bless Me Ultima."

Thursday, he spoke about the importance of public libraries across the state.

"Libraries are the heart of every community, where people meet, how important they are to pass on the values of our great nation, how important they are to preserve democracy."

"Bless Me, Ultima" was recently turned into both a movie and an opera.
