NEW YORK (AP) - An early morning fire that spread quickly through a multiple-dwelling house has killed five people in New York City.
A Fire Department spokesman says the fire was very heavy when firefighters arrived at the two-story brick building in Staten Island early Thursday. Firefighters received the call just after 4 a.m.
The spokesman had no other information about the victims.
The blaze at the multiple dwelling home in the Port Richmond section was declared under control at 5:48 a.m. It originated on the second floor and quickly spread to the attic and through the roof.
The cause is under investigation.
