MISSION, Texas (CNN/KRGV) - A quiet day at a South Texas RV park was interrupted Monday by gunfire.
Residents found themselves in the middle of a battle between border agents and suspects in Mexico.
The sounds of Bingo are common in the RV park, but Monday in Chimney Park south of Mission, Texas people heard sounds of a different kind.
"I was in my camper, and I heard shots," said one RV resident. "And I mentioned to my wife those sounded like gunshots."
The gunshots came from Border Patrol agents on boat patrol after coming under attack, according to a Border Patrol spokesperson.
Suspects on the Mexican side started throwing rocks, bottles and other objects at them. The agents responded with gunfire, shooting into Mexico.
That is when Border Patrol descended on the RV park, where residents said there were more Border Patrol agents around than usual.
In the community, Border Patrol agents are like neighbors - always there, always patrolling.
And residents said they are glad no one was hurt.
Still, for some even the gunshots were not enough the rattle them.
"I'm a retired police officer, so I don't get disturbed about those kinds of things," said a resident.
So, the RV residents put their morning commotion behind them, and the focus is back on the Bingo card.
Meanwhile, Border Patrol officials said they are investigating the incident.
