SEATTLE (AP) — It's a far-out contest sponsored by Seattle's Space Needle.
The landmark will celebrate its 50th anniversary next April. To celebrate, the Space Needle will send an astronaut wannabe on a suborbital flight.
The contest was launched Monday with the help of Apollo astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon.
The contest is being called the Space Race 2012. People can sign up at the Space Needle's website through the end of December.
A thousand people will be chosen at random to submit a one-minute video. The public will then vote for the best.
Company officials say the space trip grand prize is worth about $110,000.
