CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CNN/NEWS 14) - Wordsmiths and spelling buffs are having a field day with this. A sign along Interstate 277 in Charlotte, N.C. has a glaring spelling error.

The sign, which is meant to read "Independence," instead reads "Indepednence." The "n" and the "d" were mixed up on the sign.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation hoped to have a temporary fix in place Tuesday evening.

The company that made the sign will fix it at no cost to the taxpayers.
