BOSTON BAR, British Columbia (CNN) - A Golden Retriever in British Columbia is being hailed as a hero after saving his 11-year-old owner from a cougar.
Angel, an 18-month-old pup, underwent surgery Monday after suffering injuries to her face, eye, neck and legs, wounds that came from the brave pooch getting in between Austin Forman and the wild cat.
"And they're loyal and faithful and certainly this one has shown a lot of courage, doing what she did," said Angel's vet, Dr. John Anvik.
"She is an angel. She ran towards me just at the right time and the cougar ended up getting her instead. She's more than a best friend now," said Forman.
Angel is expected to recover from her injuries. The cougar, however, wasn't as fortunate. It was shot and killed by a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer.
