BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) — Police say a driver whose truck crashed through an overpass guard rail and dangled above a busy Oregon highway for nearly an hour had six times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Firefighters using a ladder and basket plucked 38-year-old Matthew Alan Hamilton, of Beaverton, from the truck above Highway 217 on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say he had a blood alcohol content of 0.50 percent, more than six times the 0.08 percent limit in Oregon.

Beaverton police say Hamilton had been drinking at a friend's house during the Civil War football game between the University of Oregon and Oregon State University.

He was charged with drunken driving and driving while his license was suspended from a previous drunken driving charge and was to appear in court Monday.
