SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (CNN/WGGB) - Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick got a chance to cuddle up with a pair of bears.

Not sure if that's in his job description, but he appeared to warm up to the idea pretty easily.

The governor accompanied state wildlife officials as they collected data from the collar of a tranquilized female bear who is wintering in western Massachusetts.

It's part of an annual survey of the black bear population.

Weighing in at a just six pounds each, the 4-week-old cubs stayed warm in the governor's jacket as scientists adjusted mother bear's collar.
