CHEYENNE, Wyo. (CNN/KGWN) - He's green and known to put a damper on the Christmas spirit. So a police department in Wyoming hired him to do its dirty work.

The Cheyenne Police Department enlisted the Grinch to help catch speeders.

Complete with a Santa suit, radar gun and his trusty four-legged sidekick Max, the Grinch keeps an eye out for traffic violators.

"This poor economy, we need to try to give everyone a job so we thought we'd offer it out to the Grinch to give him some work to do," said police chief Brian Kozak. "We thought this would be a great way to get the attention of the motoring public to let you know the Grinch is out there working for us and trying to help us keep our streets safe."

The department says the Grinch will be patrolling the roads throughout the holiday season.
