Ron Paul does well in La. Republican caucuses

Guaranteed at least 17 of the 46 delegates

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will have a strong presence in Louisiana's delegation to the Republican National Convention in August, even if he has little hope of winning the GOP presidential nomination.

Paul dominated the Louisiana Republican caucuses held over the weekend.

Delegates who back the libertarian congressman, who is now the only one of Mitt Romney's adversaries still standing, won the lion's share of the contests, according to The Times-Picayune.

Under party rules, Paul is guaranteed at least 17 of the 46 delegates to the convention at which Romney will almost certainly be nominated for president.

The delegates elected Saturday will go to a state convention June 2 in Shreveport, where they will choose the delegates who will go to the national gathering in Tampa, Fla.
