ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - PNM is experiencing multiple outages around Albuquerque Sunday due to high winds in the area.

Starting after 10:30 a.m. Sunday, PNM began experiencing multiple power outages, apparently wind-related.

As some customers are restored, other customers are affected.

PNM crews have restored power for approximately 21,000 customers in Northwest Albuquerque whose power went out mid-morning. PNM crews have restored power for thousands of other customers, including 798 customers in Deming.

Currently, PNM is reporting 17,350 customers without power throughout its system, but primarily in Albuquerque.

There are outages all over the city, although the Northeast Heights seems to be experiencing the greatest impact. There are also outages in Rio Rancho, Belen, Silver City and other areas.

Earlier Sunday PNM estimated as many as 33,000 customers lost power.

Some customers may be without power for several hours due to damaged poles and lines, and because there are many small outages.

PNM has called in extra crews to help.

If your power is out, please call: 888-342-5766

Safety Tips:

  • There are power lines down in the area.
  • Customers to be aware of the location of power lines are if they are outside. If you see a downed power line, stay far away.
  • Call 911.
  • Avoid low hanging lines.
  • Do not drive over a downed power line.
  • Do not try to free anything that is caught in a line. Instead, call PNM at 888-342-5766.
