Smoky fire churning in Jemez Mountains

ALBUQUERQUE - The Cebollita Fire may only be two acres, but it's creating a lot of smoke visible from nearby communities, the jemez Ranger District is reporting.

The fire reported about 2 p.m. Friday is about three miles west of La Cueva and is not spreading, according to a statement from the Santa Fe National Forest.

It is believed to be human-caused.

Firefighters from the La Cueva volunteers are on the scene, and a U.S. Forest Service engine has been dispatched.

The fire is particularly smoky because of the fuels on the ground, the Forst Service said.

Smoke is visible from La Cueva and Jemez Springs and can be expected to settle into low-lying areas and drainages overnight.
