SANTA FE (KRQE) - The fires set to reduce the wildfire threat in the Jemez Mountains are officially over but not completely out.
The 1,365-acre Chaparral Prescribed Burn wrapped up on Wednesday leaving lingering flames still at work in within the perimeter, the U.S. Forest Service said Thursday.
"There was no burning today within the area," a statement released by the Santa Fe National Forest said. "However, some pockets of unburned fuel continue to burn.
"Therefore residual smoke will be visible for a few days."
While the amount of smoke is less than previous days, overnight temperature inversions will again trap it in valleys until the sun reheats the atmosphere in the morning.
