  • Air quality alert has been issued for Albuquerque and Corrales
  • Railrunner has stopped service north and southbound due to the fire in Corrales.Railrunner officials are going to have to bus all passengers for the remainder of Wednesday evening. People stuck at Bernalillo station heading south will be bussed to Los Ranchos station and then get them on a train to their destinations.

The Romero Fire started on the westside of the river but quickly jumped to the eastside and is moving toward Sandia Pueblo.

On the eastside of the river the fire is estimated to be at 60 to 70 acres with 0% containment threatening about 150 structures. Two homes have been evacuated and Sandia Lakes Recreation Area has been evacuated and Corrales Road is blocked off just south of Highway 528.

The fire spans one mile north and one mile south of Romero Road in Corrales along the river.

The fires is being held on the westside of NM 313 however a large gas line runs on the eastside of NM 313 near the south end of the Sandia Pueblo. Fire fighters are focusing efforts to stop the fire from going to the eastside of NM 313 which could cause the gas line to erupt.

A single engine air tanker is fighting the fire from above and a helicopter is also on its way to fight the fire.

Fire officials say the fire is burning too hot and high for them to fight head on so right now they are focusing on protecting structures.

Bernalillo County, Albuquerque and Rio Rancho firefighters are out fighting the flames.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Albuquerque's Environmental Health Department issued an air quality alert advising people with breathing problems to keep windows and doors closed and limit your time spent outside.
