SANTA FE (AP) - New Mexico's insurance regulator is reminding homeowners that the agency is available to offer advice on claims from losses because of wildfires.

Insurance Superintendent John Franchini said Thursday the state Insurance Division in the Public Regulation Commission ( www.nmprc.state.nm.us ) will answer questions from policyholders if they encounter problems or need guidance in filing claims with insurers.

At least 224 homes in southern New Mexico have been destroyed in the Little Bear fire near the resort community of Ruidoso.

The Insurance Division can be reached by telephone at 505-827-4439. The PRC's Consumer Relations Division is available at 1-888-4ASKPRC.
