ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Rain and snow fell over much of New Mexico on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the first blast of wintry weather for most of the state this season.
Officials reported wet and icy roads and bridges in western New Mexico, along with several crashes in the area.
One, near Thoreau, prompted officials to close eastbound Interstate 40 in the area around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Officials diverted traffic off the interstate using the off-ramp and on-ramp, according to Lt. Eric Garcia with New Mexico State Police.
The area received between one and four inches of snow.
Also in northwestern New Mexico, Navajo Public Schools in McKinley County announced a two-hour delay for schools there because of the weather.
It's not clear whether the weather contributed to an early-morning crash on Interstate 40 east of Santa Rosa, which closed the highway for about two hours.
In the Albuquerque metro area, PNM crews reported a power outage on Albuquerque's West Side, including West Mesa High School, and police reported that traffic lights were not working on Coors Boulevard between Interstate 40 and Fortuna Road. It's also not clear whether the weather contributed to that.
Two inches of snow was reported in Sandia Park just east of Albuquerque, and wet and snowy conditions were seen in the Tijeras Canyon heading into the city.
