SANTA FE (KRQE) - It seems the third time might be the charm for getting snow out of the latest round of winter storms.
In the last few days Albuquerque has experienced strong winds and some snow, Monday the city experienced both.
Driving in the metro area was fine, the roads were dry until drivers got to the Tramway Boulevard exit and instantly were greeted with a wall of snow and the road completely covered.
The storm may have taken the Department of Transportation by surprise as well because the northbound lanes of I-25 were snow packed with ice underneath. A few plow trucks were seen on the southbound lanes around 3:30 Monday morning.
Just north of Bernalillo, Albuquerque saw a brief break in the bad conditions then it was clear from Algodones to Santo Domingo.
This snow is sticking and sticking fast. Even if the DOT has a chance to clear the roadway, conditions will continue to diminish.
Icy and snowy roads are not the only problems New Mexicans will have to deal with Monday morning; the winds are also causing issues.
Albuquerque had gusts that swayed cars side to side.
So far, NMroads.com is reporting the only road closed in the state at this time is NM 72 near Folsom which is outside Raton.
This is due to high winds, reduced visibility and blowing snow.
