ALBUQUERQUE (kRQE) - Snow-packed roads and icy conditions made for a rough morning commute in the metro area and the East Mountains Wednesday.
A number of roads and major thoroughfares had to be closed due to icy conditions.
Through the East Mountains, semis were moving bumper to bumper Wednesday morning. The roads are still slushy and New Mexico 217 is still covered with snow.
All the roads that were closed early Tuesday have been reopened.
The Department of Transportation worked around the clock in Albuquerque trying to clear the interstate of ice.
Interstate 40 eastbound lanes were closed for a few hours early from Louisiana to the Moriarty because of icy roads.
Many truckers were parked at the Winrock Mall all night, having to sleep there.
“They’re pretty bad and icy since last night, yesterday afternoon from Arizona to here and then they blocked the road completely since last night,” Michael Truong said.
After reopening the interstate, crews expanded their operation to troubled major roads in the city.
The department of transportation's saying that all of Albuquerque should be fine for the rest of the day.
The East Mountains is the only spot that could be dangerous.
Road crews are out in those troubled areas near the East Mountains, working to clear everything up.
