ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Heavy rain moving through central New Mexico has prompted a flash flood warning for metro Albuquerque and an alert for possible flooding until at least midnight.

Deep water slowed and stopped traffic, and at least one house in northwest Albuquerque was reported to be flooded.

At that time storm dropping rain at a rate of up to 2 inches an hour was located over central Albuquerque and slowly moving northward, according to the National Weather Service.

The flood warning was in effect until 7:30 p.m. is focused on northern Bernalillo County and southern Sandoval County.

However, the weather service canceled the warning at about 6:30 p.m. saying the rainfall was ending although minor flooding could continue.

By early evening weather service logged rainfall totals from 1.5 to nearly 2 inches at Moriarty, Sedillo, Albuquerque and Bandelier National Monument.

Similar totals were reported at Bonito Lake in the Little Bear Fire scar in Lincoln County and at Glenwood below the Whitewater Baldy burn in the Gila National Forest.

About 0.25 inches of hail was reported on the ground near Fourth Street NW and Montaño Road in Albuquerque.

KRQE News 13 Chief Meteorologist Mark Ronchetti reported numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected during the evening becoming scattered after midnight.

A flash flood warning also covers an area west of Carlsbad until 9:15 p.m.  There a cluster of storms west and southwest of Whites City were moving northwest were moving northwest over ground already saturated by earlier storms.

The warning area includes Whites City and Queen.  Flooding already is reported in Last Chance arroyo along State Road 137 near Queen.
