CLINES CORNERS, N.M. (KRQE) - Two law enforcement officers were injured in separate car crashes as slick roads and blowing snow made New Mexico highways extremely dangerous Wednesday morning.

An officer from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety was working a crash while he was inside his car an SUV rear-ended him propelling the squad car into the back of a moving semi truck.

The officer was flown to an Albuquerque hospital where he suffered a non-life threatening head injury. The driver of the SUV was also taken by an ambulance to the hospital, his condition is unknown.

Another state police officer was hurt in car crash just east of Moriarty and was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital, also with minor injuries.

Hovering freezing temperatures and very strong winds is making for very dangerous driving conditions along Interstate 40 in eastern New Mexico.

Crews have cleaned-up an accident less than a mile east of Clines Corners where Torrance County Sheriff's Office say there was at least one car rollover. All in all, they have responded to a total of 13 crashes.
