Snow causing slick roads, accidents

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Snow has hit the Albuquerque metro area as well as much of northeast New Mexico, causing slick roads. 

Due to the low temperatures, the snow is not melting. 

The National Weather Service is predicting the conditions will worsen between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Santa Rosa and down through Vaughn within the next few hours.

The New Mexico Department Of Transportation is plowing, salting and cindering affected roads and crews will be working around the clock to help ensure the safety of the roadways until all is clear.

APD and AFD are responding to a crash on Indian School and Broadway.  It is a rollover with one subject ejected.  That subject has been transported to the hospital without a listed condition.  Officers will remain on the scene until they hear word regarding the condition of the victim from medical personnel.

Accidents have also been reported at: Menaul and I25, Eubank and Spain, and a rollover near I-25 eastbound at Wyoming.

Drivers are urged to slow down and leave extra space between their vehicle and the one in front of them.  Allow at least 200 feet between you and a snowplow and never pass a plow on the right, since that is where the snow it’s moving is blown.  Also use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas which are likely to freeze first and stay frozen the longest.
