TIJERAS, N.M. (KRQE) - A crash south of Tijeras Friday killed a motorcyclist and shut down State Route 337 for nearly four hours, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department reported.
Deputies report two motorcyclists were headed north when one lost control and struck a guardrail. The biker, identified only as a 30-year-old man, died at the scene.
His name has not been released pending notification of his family.
The man was wearing a helmet and apparently had not been drinking, but his speed may have contributed to the crash, deputies said.
The crash happened about noon near mile marker 27 about two miles south of Tijeras, a sheriff's spokesman said.
State Route 337 is also known locally as South 14 for its past route designation.
Traffic was detoured until about 3:45 p.m. to State Route 217, which runs from near Edgewood to SR 337 at mile marker.
