RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - The Cleveland High School girls soccer team, nearly perfect in its first year of existence, is the KRQE Team of the Week.
Cleveland boasts a 16-1 record in its inaugural season including wins over Las Cruces High, Mayfield, Cibola and Rio Rancho. The storm's only loss was a 1-0 slip-up at Academy.
This season Cleveland has scored 74 goals while allowing an absurdly low 3 goals.
"At the beginning of the season, we all felt that we would have a successful season," sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Ortiz said. "But now that it's come to this with only one loss, we think that we can actually go to state and prove ourselves more then we have already."
The Cleveland Storm has two regular season games remaining before likely heading to the state tournament.
