ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - High School baseball standout Max Walla is now a member of the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
The Albuquerque Academy slugger heard his name called in round two of the Major League Baseball player draft Tuesday night. Walla is the 13th pick of the second round and 73rd pick overall.
Walla watched the draft with friends and family at his home in Albuquerque.
"We had two laptops going at once," Walla said. "My mom's laptop was about two seconds faster than mine. I heard the news come down on her laptop first.
"My teammates heard it on my laptop. After the announcement my teammates dogpiled me."
Walla led Academy to a state championship in Class 4-A this past
season. He also was honored as the New Mexico baseball player of
the year.
Walla had impressive private workouts with baseball teams the
week leading up to the draft. The outfielder impressed many with
his ability to handle a bat.
