ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A lighting delay squashed La Cueva’s chances against Clovis in 2008, but the only electricity on the field last Friday was the Bears dominant rushing attack led by junior running back Ronnie Daniels.

In a battle between traditional state powers at Wilson Stadium, the Bears whipped the Wildcats 49-0 to earn Team of the Week honors.

Daniels both clobbered and slipped past Wildcat defenders en route to 278 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

“No I don’t put butter on my uniform,” Daniels said. “Nothing like that; I actually had to get patted down in YAFL once for that. But there’s not butter, no oil.”

Daniels said his strategy is to make first contact, saying he doesn’t like to be a passive rusher.

La Cueva Head Coach Ron Romero said he was taken aback by Daniels’ ability when he first arrived at the school three years ago.

Romero said the junior rushing star can play any position on the field, calling him “one of kind.”

The La Cueva defense also proved to be unbearable for the Wildcats last week, scooping up two first half fumbles.

“We just have 11 guys who love to hit,” Bears defensive tackle Danny Drum said.

The Bears have the Team of the Week crown in their paws right now, but they have a big hurdle ahead—the Eldorado Golden Eagles.

The two rivals will square off Thursday at Wilson Stadium.
