ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Curtis Beach didn't sweep the decathlon Friday, but he's still crushing the competition at the Great Southwest Classic.

The only events that Beach failed to win on Friday were the discus and javelin. He won all of the events he competed in on Thursday.

Beach won the pole vault with an amazing vault of 15-feet-5-inches. He also was victorious in the 1500 meter event.

He scored a meet record of 7719 points. Although, Beach scored 7466 points with international implements, breaking a 37-year-old record.

The numbers were high enough to qualify him for the U.S. Championships next month.
