Motorcycle crash kills Hobbs coach

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) - A teacher-coach from Hobbs Freshman High School died Thursday after his motorcycle and an SUV collided on a city street, Hobbs police reported.

Henry Jimenez Jr., 47, died as he was being airlifted from Lea Regional Hospital to a trauma center in Lubbock, Texas, according to police.

He was a physical-education teach and coach at Hobbs Freshman High School. He previously coached at Lake Arthur High School.

A spokesperson for Hobbs Municipal School said counselors were at the school during the day Thursday to work with students and staff.

According to police Jimenez was on East Marland Boulevard shortly at about 7:30 a.m. when the driver of a Ford Explorer turned left in front of him at South Jefferson. Information on the other driver and any possible citations has not yet been released.

Jimenez, married and the father of four adult children, graduated from Artesia High School, New Mexico Junior College and University of the Southwest, according to a staff directory. The directory listed him as an assistant football and softball coach.
