THE PIT (KRQE) - Much to the delight of a near capacity crowd, the Espanola Valley Devils surged late to beat the Albuquerque Academy Chargers 59-57.
The game was played at a furious pace with both teams racing up and down the court looking for quick buckets.
At first it seemed very even, with both squads trading virtually every bucket.
The Chargers, however, would go on a 9-0 run in the late second quarter to get some breathing room.
Down at the half the Devils came out of the locker room red-hot, scorching a 12-4 advantage in the third quarter.
Espanola Valley kept leaning on Academy in the final period and little by little built up there lead until it was too big to overcome.
As the final buzzer sounded, jubilation engulfed The Pit.
The Devils will play Roswell Saturday night for the 4A title.
