PHILADELPHIA (KRQE) - University of New Mexico alumnus Hank Baskett is being released from the Philadelphia Eagles to make room on the roster for quarterback Michael Vick, the team reports on its Web site.
Baskett, a wide receiver, had been signed to a one-year tender with the team for just over $1.5 million.
He had joined the Minnesota Vikings as a rookie free agent in 2006, but was soon traded to Philadelphia for wide receiver Billy McMullen.
News of his release from the team comes a day after more bad news for New Mexico alumni in the pros: Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher on Monday said he was out for the rest of the season after dislocating his right wrist in a game against the Green Bay Packers.
