ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - When it comes to go-karts, Cody Dons, 12, is one intimidating preteen.
Dons has the racecar driver look, ability and star quality. But for now, young Cody is tearing up the competition in go-karts and mini-sprints.
Last year, Dons won the go-kart national title. In a few weeks, he will try to defend his crown.
However, the racing prodigy has now started driving mini-sprint cars.
"In mini sprints, you go into the turn completely sideways and all that stuff. That's just a phenomenal feeling," Dons said.
His move to the bigger, faster mini-sprints has already proved successful. Dons is already beating men that are twice his age.
Cody's father Wim Dons said his son learned to race the right way.
"That's what's more important, then just going out there and beating them, it's passing clean, and just driving clean," Cody's Father Wim Dons said.
If that doesn't have you convinced, the NASCAR hopeful has the idea of sponsored racing down pat.
"Thank you Al Unser, Stefan Signs, Genesis, Sparco, Rio Rancho T-Shirts, and my mom and dad," Dons said.
