ANAHEIM, CA (KRQE) - An Albuquerque woman faced off against more than 17,000 runners at the inaugural Tinker Bell half marathon at Disneyland Resort, and came out on top.
Donning her green fairy wings and green tutu, Kellie Nickerson crossed the finish line first.
It took Nickerson 1 hour and 27 minutes to finish the half marathon in Anaheim California Sunday.
The 13.1 mile trek passes through the Disneyland and Disney’s California adventure parks and also through Anaheim landmarks.
“My brother asked me if I was planning on finishing top three and I told him I just wanted to be in the top twenty-five. I didn’t think I could win. So it was a great surprise,” said Nickerson.
Nickerson says she was a bit nervous about wearing the green wings thinking they would slow her down but says all the cheering the outfit brought on was great motivation.
