MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marquette defeated Syracuse 74-71 last night for its 20th victory of the season. The Golden Eagles moved into second place behind Georgetown in the Big East standings. Davante Gardner scored a career-high 26 points after playing just 11 minutes in Saturday's loss at Villanova.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Taylor Holstrom scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as Penn State defeated Wisconsin 3-2 yesterday. Mark Zengerle and Joseph LaBate had the Badgers goals. Landon Peterson made 33 saves for Wisconsin.

UNDATED (AP) — Jedd Gyorko hit his second homer of the spring, a two-run shot that helped the San Diego Padres beat a Milwaukee Brewers split-squad 7-1 yesterday. Joey Votto hit a two-run homer as the Cincinnati Reds beat the split-squad Brewers 5-2.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks' NHL-record point streak has reached 19 games. Marian Hossa (HOH'-sah) scored 1:44 into overtime last night to give the Hawks a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Patrick Kane and Viktor Stalberg also scored for Chicago, which has won six straight and nine of 10.
