PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers snapped their longest losing streak of the season at seven games with a 92-86 win over the Boston Celtics last night. Paul Pierce had 23 points and eight assists for the Celtics, who were playing their third game in four nights.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Zdeno Chara and Milan Lucic scored first-period goals and the Boston Bruins beat the Florida Panthers 4-1 yesterday. Chris Kelly had a power-play goal in the second and Daniel Paille had an empty-net goal in the third. Tuukka Rask stopped 34 shots for the Bruins, who won their third straight game.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Jon Lester pitched two scoreless innings in his first start of spring training, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday. Lester retired all six batters he faced, striking out one. He needed 24 pitches — 17 strikes — to get through the two innings.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — In college men's basketball, Number 6 Duke routed Boston College 89-68 yesterday. Ryan Anderson scored 23 points to lead the Eagles. They had 16 turnovers, were held to one field goal during a 10-minute stretch that coincided with Duke's dominating early burst and lost their fourth in six games.

LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Bucknell beat Holy Cross 74-57 yesterday. Justin Burrell scored 16 points and Phil Beans 15 for Holy Cross, which was coming off a 79-76 loss to Lafayette in which it shot 67.4 percent, its best in 25 years. The Crusaders shot 41.5 percent yesterday.

ORONO, Maine (AP) — Stony Brook downed Maine 69-53 yesterday. Tommy Brenton tallied 13 points, a career-high 20 rebounds and seven assists to help Stony Brook clinch at least a share of the America East Conference regular season title. Alasdair Fraser scored 15 points for Maine.

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — La Salle pulled away to beat Rhode Island 72-65 yesterday in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Tyreek Duren scored a game-high 21 points and Jerrell Wright finished with a double-double for the Explorers. Xavier Munford led the Rams with 18 points, and Nikola Malesevic and Mike Aaman added 15 points apiece.
