DETROIT (AP) — Niklas Kronwall scored the go-ahead goal in the second period last night as the Detroit Red Wings topped the Colorado Avalanche 2-1. Johan Franzen added a breakaway goal for the Red Wings. Detroit has gone four straight games without allowing a goal in the first or second period.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Kyle Randall scored 23 points last night to lead Central Michigan past Eastern Michigan 61-59. Olivier Mbaigoto added 14 points and Blake Hibbitts had 13 for the Chippewas. Derek Thompson led the Eagles with 14 points.

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions have signed punter Blake Clingan. He has never punted in an NFL game, but he averaged nearly 40 yards in four seasons at Central Florida from 2007-10. The Lions ranked last in the NFL in yards per punt last season.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner has been granted an extra season of eligibility because of medical hardship. The school says Gardner now has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Gardner began last season as a wide receiver, but started the final five games at quarterback for the Wolverines.
