LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KRQE) - The Mountain West Conference Football Pre-Season Media Poll was released Tuesday at the conference's media day in Las Vegas with UNM picked to finish seventh out of nine teams.

TCU has been tabbed to win the conference. Last season the Horned Frogs finished 7-1 in league play and 11-2 overall.

BYU was picked second followed by 2008 MWC champion Utah third.

Air Force, UNLV and Colorado State follow suit in the poll with San Diego State and Wyoming bringing up the rear.

"You don't put a lot of credence into pre-season polls," Lobos first-year Head Coach Mike
Locksley said on the prediction. "I think with the unknown of us being a new staff, a new program, I think that plays a part.

"That ranking isn't indicative of where we want to be."

Senior offensive lineman Erik Cook was the Lobos only first-team all-conference selection.

"I'm kind of surprised; I was honored," Cook said. "Being picked pre-season Mountain West, I'm getting shown some respect.

"But it is all about the team and how the team finishes. I'm honored but I'm kind of mad about the seventh place pre-season pick."

The Lobos open the season Sept. 5 at Texas A&M.
