ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The Lobo football team exceeded expectations again this weekend in what appears to be a turn-around following three very disappointing seasons.

Saturday night, they won before a very enthusiastic homecoming crowd that set the stadium rocking.

There were smiles on the faces of Lobo fans during the game with a big win for the team, beating Texas State 35-14.

The Lobos already have the same number of wins this year than they had in the past three seasons combined.

However, only 22,000 fans were here for the win.

While that's a disappointing number, it is still 6,000 more fans than last years' homecoming game.

The people here that rooted on UNM credit the team for turning their game around so quickly.

They say Coach Bob Davie is the reason this team is playing so well.

“The turnaround has been so fast and so complete and everybody just loves the Lobos anyways,” Marlene Grant said. “Now we love him and the lobos.”

Others agree.

“We’re just amazed of how good we are this year compared to the past few years,” Carol Ruvolo said. “We’re delighted with Coach Davie…we hope he stays forever.”

One fan says Lobo fans were thrilled.

“I think people are excited. People sitting around me, very excited,” Manny Pacheco said. “I haven't seen a Lobo crowd this pumped for football in years.”

Next home game is the last weekend of October against Fresno State, a team that's been playing very well this year too.
