ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Pit, home of the UNM Men's Lobo Basketball team, landed on a new top 10 list for best home court advantage.

ESPN College Basketball writer Andy Katz published the list Wednesday which ranks UNM fifth.

The primary factors for the rankings included student seating, loyalty of fans, noise, tradition and players.

"From the national anthem till the 0:00 on the clock you know its going to be loud, its going to be crazy and its a great place to watch a game at," said UNM Graduate and fan Wesley Henderson.

Allen Fieldhouse at Kansas took the number one spot follwed by Cameron Indoor at Duke then Assembly Hall at Indiana and Gonzaga's arena came in fourth ahead of The Pit.

Cherry and Silver fans told KRQE News 13 it is a well deserved ranking.

"There's something special about the pit, the way the fans are on top of you the way the fans get into the game the way the students get into the game everybody loves their basketball," Henderson said.

Sports Illustrated gave The Pit even higher honors in 1999 ranking it as the 13th best sports venue of the 20th Century.
