Lobos NCAA tickets selling out fast

350 tickets to see Lobos in Salt Lake sold out

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Lobos are headed to the NCAA tournament and for fans that want to see them play in person, chances are, they're out of luck.

Lobos tickets went on sale at 8:30 a.m. Monday  and by 11 a.m. Lobo ticket officials said they were sold-out. And those who have tickets are having to pay big bucks to travel to Salt Lake City.

A pumped up team and a crowd of howling fans exploded with excitement Sunday when the Lobos were announced they are a number 3 seed to play 14th seeded Harvard in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A line nearly 6,000 fans long packed the Pit Sunday for the news, but the line Monday morning was sparse."By now, its a little too late, we're completely sold out," said Kurt Esser, Sr. Associate Athletics Director for the University of New Mexico.

"They're sold out and that's wonderful," said season ticket holder Liz Gallegos. "I'm glad to hear that, I mean I'm not disappointed, I'm glad that many people are going to be there."

Esser said they were sold out at 11 a.m., that all 350 tickets the Lobos were allotted are gone. Fifty of them went to students and 300 to season ticket holders and donors.

But even students that could get their hands on tickets said the trip is proving tough.

"To get to the stadium it costs $1,400, cheapest to get to Salt Lake City not including hotel rooms, so as a student, you know its not really feasible," said Shaun Tsabetsauie, UNM Student.

KRQE News 13 found some flights cheaper online, but just like the tickets to the game, flights are selling out too.

Tsabetsauie said he got a refund for the ticket he bought for Thursday's game, hoping to score another ticket if the Lobos make the Sweet 16.

"LA plane tickets are 365 round trip and you can sleep on the beach if you want, not have to pay for hotel rooms," said Tsabetsauie. "So economically, that makes more sense."

Some fans KRQE spoke with at the Pit Sunday had family standing by to book travel arrangements as soon as possible. While they're sold out at the Pit, fans were directed to the arena website, which is also showing Thursday's game is sold out.

But for die-hard lobo fans, where there's a will, there's a way.

"We have a lot of relatives in Salt Lake, so I think we'll still make the trip," said Gallegos. "As soon as I get home, I'm going to call my nephew and see what he can do about getting tickets for us over there."

For fans that still want to get tickets, there are a few places to look. Sites like StubHub! have sold steadily, but the prices are getting higher and higher.

Fans can still check the Energy Solutions Arena website in case more tickets become available. If the Lobos make the Sweet 16, Lobo ticket officials said they'll make ticket information available on Saturday and that ticket allotment will increase.

Thursday's game against Harvard is at 7:50 mountain time on TNT.
